Tiny Bar | An evening with The Head and the Heart

06|03|15
A few weeks back, we were very happy to host our friends and members of the band The Head and the Heart for a special evening of songs and storytelling.  Jon, Josiah and Charity took a break from working on their upcoming album to treat a small crowd of friends and fans to an exclusive and intimate set in what we fondly call our Tiny Bar.

The Tiny Bar idea has grown organically...almost accidentally.  It began a year ago when a friend had been writing and recording, but he missed performing live during those creation phases.  So, we invited some people over.  That inaugural Tiny Bar set let him warm up his vocal chords, take off his shoes (literally) and simply do what he loves for people he loves in the town he calls home.  It was an incredible night, and an idea was born.

We feel like a lucky bunch.  Black Iris’ Richmond space not only houses two full recording studios and a gallery but we also constructed a small bar towards the back of the building.  Our own little speakeasy.  We realized that our little wood-paneled speakeasy offered a unique opportunity to host intimate shows on a smaller scale.  After collectively logging years on the road touring in our own bands, we missed the charm and respite that came in those off-nights playing small house shows; sitting in living rooms with friends playing familiar songs, rocking out in basements for ten or so people.  Those shows allowed us do what we love- to make and share our music- yet offered our travel-worn bodies a welcome break from the typical touring demands.

With that in mind, we officially launched the Tiny Bar shows at Black Iris. They offer a private, intimate evening of music and conversation for friends, fans and colleagues within our industry.  And there's plentiful libations.  And the room has some killer acoustics, no less.

In its brief history, Black Iris has also hosted Mirah, Chain & The Gang, Stephen Vitiello and other notable musical artists.  Stay tuned for upcoming Tiny Bar shows.  We look forward to sharing many more incredible evenings with you!
